5am till last flight

Breakfast available all day

After months of looking forward to our honeymoon we were finally at the airport, time for one last fry up!

There was a number of places inside the airport departure lounge but we liked the look of Armadillo, you can look at the entire menu here.

The seating area was large and nicely laid out with a Southern American theme.

In amongst the quality and varied sauces sat the hot sauce, it went nicely on the sausages.

Armadillo juice cost £2.90 for a large glass and was delicious!

I went for the beautifully presented Longhorn breakfast, it cost £8.85 and toast was an extra £1.95.

Everything on the plate tasted great and although I am not overly fussed about potato products on my breakfast the ranch sautéed potatoes were delicious.

Fried egg perfection!

We had just got married and me and my beautiful wife were off on honeymoon, we were heading to Pineda De Mar (near Barcelona) for a week. We chose Pineda De Mar as the 20th Psychobilly Meeting was happening on the week we were there. We had been travelling since 7am and finally got to the airport at 10.30 so we went in search for a decent breakfast. Garfunkel's had a big queue so we kept looking and then we spotted Armadillo, the breakfast menu looked great so we headed in...

Upon entering - Although inside an airport Armadillo did have a restaurant feel to it once inside, lots of tables to choose from and a distinct Southern American theme throughout. You are shown to a table and there is a full waitress service. Each table has a good selection of quality sauces including traditional and spicy sauces. Everything is bought over when it is ready and you can ask for the bill to arrive before you have finished eating if you are in a hurry. 8/10

Service - We were shown to a table straight away and menu's were handed to us along with a compliment about my hair! The waiters/waitresses here seem quite on the ball so you won't be waiting too long. There was a bit of a delay in the toast arriving (we wanted it with the breakfast) but before we had time to get too frustrated it had arrived. 8/10

Contents - 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 fried eggs, roasted mushroom, grilled tomato, ranch sautéed  potatoes and toast & butter. 7/10

Presentation - The sausages and bacon were huddled together beside the stack of Sautéed potatoes that partially covered the grilled tomato. Perfect fried eggs sat proudly on the plate with the mushroom perched in the centre complete with parsley sprig. Everything looked great and I couldn't wait to start eating it! 7/10

The food - The sausages were really good and a nice size too, they were juicy with a great taste and texture. The smoked bacon was good quality and cooked just right, the magnificent pair of free range fried eggs were just perfect. The juicy tomatoes were grilled nicely and the large roasted mushroom was excellent. The ranch sautéed potatoes were so much better than I was expecting with a fluffy centre, crisp outside and a distinct slightly spicy taste. I forgot to photograph the toast but it was really nice and arrived piping hot with plenty of butter. 8/10

Value for money - The Longhorn breakfast cost £8.85 and the toast was an extra at £1.95, with the £2.90 glass of Armadillo juice the total spend per person came to £13.70. Ordinarily this would seem quite steep but airports are always more expensive, the meal was delicious and it was incredibly filling so I felt happy enough with the price in this situation. 7/10

Veggie option - There was plenty of veggie choices on the menu. The vegetarian breakfast cost £7.95 and consisted of.. Sweetcorn fritters, fried or scrambled egg, roasted mushroom, grilled tomato and fried banana.

Overall - I really enjoyed the breakfast at Armadillo and found the environment fairly relaxing considering it was inside a busy airport. The service was good and the staff were friendly, well worth trying out if you are passing through Gatwick and fancy a breakfast before your flight, they serve all day too! 7.5/10
