Zeneli Cafe - Tattersett

A148
Tattersett
Norfolk
PE31 6TD

All day breakfast available

Zeneli Cafe certainly stands out from on the A148 so you shouldn't have any problem spotting it.

The prices are all reasonable and a large menu displays the different breakfast options.

I couldn't get a sharp photo of the menu but study it before ordering as the cheaper small breakfast offers a far better selection of items including mushrooms and tomatoes which the large breakfast doesn't offer.

Cutlery, sauces and something to read can be found on the trolley beside the counter.

The seating area is clean and fairly spacious.

Desserts are ok but I prefer a nice sausage roll.

Nice big sauce bottles here so squeeze away to your heart's content!

The coffee was fairly good and comes with the breakfast.

So does the toast, I later spotted that the smaller breakfast comes with toast and bread and butter which seemed like a better deal for £1 less.

Decent looking eggs and economy sausages really stood out, the rest just looked average at best.

Fairly standard griddled bacon.

Deep hash browns and impressive looking eggs, the yolks were a tad solid inside though.

My arch enemy the economy sausage was back on my plate again.

There was no vegetarian option listed but they were happy to adapt the all day breakfast by removing the meat and adding extra tomatoes and mushrooms.

We were attending our friends wedding in Tattersett and after an excellent evening we camped over in a nearby campsite. On the way there we had spotted Zeneli Cafe and decided if it was open we would eat breakfast there the following morning. The next morning we pulled into the car park and was delighted to find it was open so we headed inside...

Upon entering - The door to the right is locked so make sure you enter using the door to the left, thankfully the chap at the jet wash next door pointed this out to us! There's a large menu above the counter so once you've decided simply place your order, wait for your drinks and pay. There were plenty of tables inside and even a couple of picnic tables outside which could be a good option on sunny days. On your way to the table be sure to collect some cutlery and sauces from the trolley in front of the counter. The environment of this cafe seemed quite peaceful and relaxing so enjoy your drink whilst waiting for your food to arrive. 7/10

Service - We were welcomed as we entered and although there was no vegetarian option on the menu they were happy to offer extra items to replace the meat on my wife's breakfast. The other customers here were as friendly as the staff too suggesting places we might like to visit nearby. Once our order was taken we were given our drinks and the food arrived in good time, certainly a pleasant and friendly start to our day. 7/10

Contents - 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 fried eggs, 2 hash browns, beans, 2 slices of toast and a hot drink. 5/10

Presentation - Economy sausages were the first thing I spotted but the nice looking eggs distracted me briefly before gazing at the other fairly standard looking items. It looked ok for an economy breakfast but the plate looked quite bare without mushrooms and tomatoes. 5/10

The food - The sausages were bland tasting with a squashy texture, a typical economy sausage really. The bacon was ok and the hash browns fairly average, they were nice and thick though. The eggs looked almost perfect but cutting through the yolk revealed a near firm centre. The beans were sitting in quite a lot of juice and the toast was fairly average. Not a great breakfast but everything was served nice and hot at least. 5/10

Value for money - Certainly worth £5.99 considering it came with toast and a hot drink. I couldn't help thinking the smaller £4.99 breakfast was better value for money though as it also included mushrooms and tomatoes. 7/10

Veggie option - Not a proper one but you could swap the meat for extra mushrooms and tomatoes.

Overall - If you're looking for an affordable breakfast stop on the A148 then this place could be for you. I mildly enjoyed the breakfast here and although the ingredients were economy it was served piping hot so definitely worth the money. The staff were friendly and we were made to feel welcome which is always a good thing. I would certainly go for the small breakfast though as it offers a much more complete selection of items. 6/10

  1. Think I'd plump for the veggie one to be honest, but at £5.99 its a belly filler non the less.
